I already made a rant on this, but I was driven to rant some more after seeing more posts about this and also sitting up at 6AM re-watching BMW episodes, asking myself why they had to ruin such a good relationship: Shawngela.

I’m not saying Shaty does not have any chemistry, but if I’m honest, their on-screen relationship is lackluster. There’s no way in hell that you can tell me that, based off of the interactions we’ve seen on GMW, it’s obvious that Shaty is way more special than Shawngela. I understand why we don’t see a lot of them, because the answer is obvious: The actors, Cheryl Texiera and Rider Strong, probably agreed to only be in a few episodes, and even with that, we still wouldn’t see a lot of them because the show doesn’t focus on them. It focuses on the kids. No matter the reason, this shit still happened, and it ruined a lot for me because we got to see so much of Shawn and Angela, only for them to be replaced like this, and the amount of time it took for Shaty to get married seemed so short that it seemed like they were treating Angela like trash. I get she married some other guy we don’t know, but that’s it. We don’t know. We don’t know anything about how she’s doing or get to see how she’s doing, so the idea just seems so forced.

I love Maya Hart with all my heart. She’s my favorite character, but you know what? I think it’s bullshit they had to retcon such a good relationship and make Shawn date and marry Katy just so Maya can be happy. I understand a father figure is important, but It would have been nice to see that she can handle herself without a father figure in her life, and this is coming from me, someone who doesn’t have a father figure. 

Maybe I’m just some BMW fan who can’t let shit go, but I don’t care. I can’t let it go and I won’t let it go. I get why they needed to do everything, but it was presentation and how it was played out that bothers me the most to be honest. Maybe Shawn does love Katy more than Angela, and that’s fine! That’s 100% okay, but here’s the thing. You’re telling me it, but you’re not showing me it, and I think that’s the main issue. Sure, we get little things of them, we get pictures hanging up on the walls of Shawn Hunter’s home, we’re told it’s special, we’re told it means something, but it can’t mean anything to us if we don’t understand it.

I’m not anti-shaty, I’m just a little annoyed.
