What’s so upsetting about the Shawngela situation and how it was handled in gmw is difficult to explain/understand unless you experienced BMW beforehand. Watching BMW with the knowledge that Katy would eventually appear and Shawngela would never really last and they would grow so apart that Shawn wouldn’t even know where she was anymore would give you a different view of the couple as you’re watching them. As a person who fell in love with BMW before we even knew GMW was a thing, the turn of events in girl meets world was completely unbelievable.
It’s the fact that they lost touch that’s the most upsetting and unbelievable. I normally support these writers and what they do with past characters but Shawngela was the one thing I truly believe they messed up big time.
Angela was there through the most turbulent time in Shawn’s life. She was there when he had his first brush with alcoholism. She was there when he thought he was so damaged he’d never really be able to love someone. She was there when his father died. She was there when he found out that his mother was never his mother. She was there when he found out who potentially and probably was his biological mother didn’t want anything to do with him. She was there when he picked up the bottle again to deal with it all.
He asked her, at his most vulnerable time: ‘Never leave.’
And she replied: 'I won’t.’
And let me tell you that girl meant it. Whether or not they ended up together romantically is besides the point. It’s the fact that after all that and what she went through with him, how she was there at his lowest point, that they would just lose touch to the point where they wouldn’t know where each other were or what they’re doing or if they’re married or not. I’m sorry but I don’t buy that for a second. Despite everything, even when they were broken up, Shawn and Angela were there for each other not just because of their romance but because they where friends and above all two humans who cared extremely deeply for one another.
So after all that don’t tell me that they would simply just lose touch. Forget about each other. Because they just wouldn’t. This isn’t anything against Shawn and Katy or Angela and her husband, this is about the writers expecting us to buy that they just forgot about this deep connection they had, not as a lovers but as human beings. Shawn and Angela wouldn’t. Not in a million years. And I hate that the writers decided to just forget these fantastic characters and beautiful relationship they built for so long for one shock factor moment. That’s my biggest problem with girl meets world so far. Not the triangle. Not the lack of Zay storylines. Not the random character bashing. The way they completely let down Shawn and Angela. I’ll never forgive the writers for that.
